Bookclubs

Eastern Regional Libraries has sets of books for loan by community book groups. Each book club set consists of 10 copies and there are notes supplied for many of the titles. An annual fee of $165 (including GST) per bookclub is charged. Further information is available at any branch of Eastern Regional Libraries.

car manuals

Eastern Regional Libraries holds over 300 car manuals of many makes and models. Search the library catalogue for the manual you require.


Search Tips

Type in the make and model of your car into a keyword search e.g holden commodore vc


junior

Red Spot books
Picture books that assist in reading such as Dr. Seuss as well as simple non-fiction titles aimed at pre-school children. They have a red spot on the top of the front cover or the spine.

Easy Fiction
Easy to read books for children who are learning to read. They have the call number J EASY FIC and are shelved with the Junior fiction.

Jump
A fun section that includes joke, puzzles and Usborne books. Books in the Jump section have a frog sticker on the bottom of the front cover or the spine.

 


 

language study

If you're interested in learning a new language, Eastern Regional Libraries have books, audio cassettes and cd-roms to assist you. Ask at your local branch or search the library catalogue for the item you require.

Search Tips

Type in the language wanted as well as the word language into a keyword search.

e.g. german language
will find german language books, audio cassettes and cd-roms.

To restrict this to just cd-roms, type german language cd.

 


literacy

The Outer Eastern Literacy Program Collection is housed at Boronia Library. This collection includes books on grammar, spelling, arithmetic, as well as novels for those learning to read.


 


lote (languages other than english)

Eastern Regional Libraries collects adult fiction, magazines and newspapers in other languages. The collection is situated at the following branches with the demographics of the population in mind.

Knox - Chinese, Vietnamese
Rowville - Chinese, Italian (moved from Lilydale)

Junior LOTE books, videos and cassettes are held at Knox Library in the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Vietnamese.

A collection of music scores is available for loan at Belgrave Library. The collection covers a range of popular music. It is possible to search the library catalogue for an item in the music score collection by including information from one or more of the following:

Title
Musician
Musical group
Composer
Song title
Subject
Guitar
Piano

Also, combine your search with the word score

reference

The reference section at each branch is a collection of not-for- loan titles useful for research within the library. This collection consists of encyclopedias, dictionaries, year books and statistical information. Online encyclopedias are also available for use at home.


statistics

Australian Bureau of Statistics publications are now available online,
using Eastern Regional Libraries computers. Follow the AusStats link in the Online Information section.

Access to all publications (except spreadsheets) is free only from within
ERL libraries.

Knox, Ringwood, Croydon and Lilydale libraries also hold hard copies of a
core selection of ABS publications.

understanding dewey

Nonfiction books at Eastern Regional Libraries are shelved according to the Dewey Decimal System, where books on the same subject are shelved together and have roughly the same call number. A quick guide to understanding this is as follows:
