NOTICEBOARD POLICY
Introduction
Community notice boards are a facility ERL provides for organisations and individuals in the Region
for display of informational notices of public interest.
Principles
The following broad principles apply:
Notices should not be contrary to Council policy - if in doubt, check
In general, do not use Notice boards for commercial advertising, especially commercial products. The
emphasis should be on services and education and whether it is in the public interest, not on goods.
Payment of a fee for service does not automatically exclude the notice if community need or interests
are kept in mind.
Notices should not be discriminatory or defamatory
Notices should not be offensive in presentation, content, tone or language.
Notices should not promote a particular political party, e.g. electioneering propaganda, or a particular
religious group or tenet
Controversial or ‘political’ notices are acceptable if in the public interest, in good taste, and limited to
the time, place, program or form etc. of the group, meeting or event
Notice boards should not operate as a trading post, lost and found or lonely hearts outlet.
Preference should be given to local individuals, organisations and services and those with little
access to publicity elsewhere.
Notices should be kept current - weed them regularly
Notices should contain details of the issuing individual and/or organisation. If no-one is prepared to
take responsibility for the information being publicised, we are not obliged to accept it.
Judgement
Discretion should guide actions in all cases when accepting or rejecting material. Read all
contributions carefully.
